Actually we planned a snowshoeing trip in Scena<\/a>, but the winter was yet to come – like in so many places in the Alps. But when I open the blinds at the Family Hotel Gutenberg<\/a> and look outside, the sun shines from a bright blue sky. So we plan to follow the old irrigation channels around the town – even without snow.<\/p>\n

\"Wandern<\/a><\/p>\n

Through vineyards and apple orchards<\/h3>\n

Nevertheless I put on my snow boots, because in the shade it is still chilly. Comfortable I walk through the apple orchards above the South Tyrolean village; a few shriveled fruits are left from the autumn harvest. I like to buy the shining apples with the South Tyrol sticker at home and here I see, where the fruit grow.<\/p>\n

\nWe cross a vineyard up to the Schenner Waalweg, an irrigation channel. It’s one of the many, gentle hiking trails that follow the historic canals from the 13th century. The path meanders above the Mediterranean town through vineyards and orchards and offers great views over again to the valley.<\/p>\n

Scena is located a few kilometers above Meran and is known for its mild climate. Palms and cypresses grow in the gardens and provide a Mediterranean flair.<\/p>\n

\nI really do not miss the snow. In the Scena valley there is rarely a white winter, but normally snow falls on the surrounding mountains. So I enjoy the warm winter sun and follow the hiking path to the valley station of the cable car to the Taser Alm.<\/p>\n

Take the cable car to the Scena mountain<\/h3>\n

The cable car runs less frequently in winter, but the next departure is in a few minutes and so I float totally relaxed with the gondola up to the mountain \u201cSchennaberg\u201d. At the top station the family Alm Taser<\/a> is offering an amazing with from the new terrace with its open fireplaces. Josef Gamper took over the inn from his parents and now takes up to 70 guests over night.<\/p>\n

\nFor children there are playgrounds and a high ropes course, the parents enjoy the view with South Tyrolean cuisine. I opted for a South Tyrolean specialty with local cheese – a pleasure!<\/p>\n

Skiing in Schenna<\/h3>\n

Since we have our ski with us, we drive the next morning to the nearby ski resort Meran 2000<\/a>. By car, we are within a few minutes at the valley station. The slopes are snowy, the three kilometer long natural toboggan run is also in operation.<\/p>\n

\"Naturrodelbahn<\/a>
\nMy personal highlight is the Alpine Bob. A good three minutes I drive down the one kilometer-long railway line and enjoy the thrill of speed.<\/p>\n
