The green island nation Dominica <\/a>is a paradise for nature lovers. Those who stay longer, stay mostly in the south of the island at the capital Roseau, we stop with “our” Sea Cloud II for one day in the far north in the bay of Portsmouth.<\/p>\n

\"Dominica<\/a><\/p>\n

The jetty is located outside the small town at the Cabrits Peninsula, where the National Park is also located. But first, we stroll to Portsmouth and we are on the way. After a few hundred meters, we are at the beach. A couple of local kids are playing here, a single souvenir seller comes with beautiful wooden chains and pedals happily thereof, after selling us two chains as a souvenir.<\/p>\n

We pass a colorful restaurant, little further “Chez Felix” offers rum punch right on the beach. The colorful bar is only open when the artist has no exhibition.<\/p>\n

We are lucky and enjoy a cool drink with fantastic sea view.<\/p>\n

The town itself is rather unspectacular. It was designed in the 18th century like a checkerboard, but a few years later the capital of Dominica moved to Roseau. The former Bay Street is now called Michael Douglas Boulevard, there are a few shops. Saturday is market day, but this Sunday everyon is at the Church and loud gospel singing sounds out of countless houses.<\/p>\n

In the afternoon we explore the Cabrits Peninsula and Fort Shirley. The defense system is now developed as a youth hostel, in the national park around grow unusual trees from around the world.<\/p>\n

Here awaits us a cook from the city and shows us the special fruit of the island. Together we bring a Caribbean course before we are expected back on board the Sea Cloud II.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
