There are only five small islands east of the inhabited island of Mayreau, but the Tobago Cays were my personal luxury highlight of my Caribbean Cruise. They are part of the chain of islands in the Grenadines, and belong to the state of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.<\/p>\n

\u201eOur\u201c Sea Cloud II<\/a> cruises along the Lesser Antilles and stops this morning at the beautiful chain of islands. With my snorkeling equipment I walk down the gangway and set over with one of nimble zodiacs to the white catamaran.<\/p>\n

By catamaran through the Tobago Cays<\/h3>\n

When everyone is on board, the sails are set and the boat glides across the gentle waves around the islands with their gleaming white beaches. Here and there sparkles a school of fish under the clear water surface.<\/p>\n

Finally, the catamaran runs on a small island directly on the shallow beach. I go ashore and stroll on the island where there is nothing but a lot of white sandy beach, palm trees and cactus.<\/p>\n

The perfect day: sunbathing and snorkeling<\/h3>\n

I quickly find a beautiful place, grab my snorkelling equipment and walk into the water. It is so wonderfully warm and pleasant and on the other side of the cliff I see a few colorful fish.<\/p>\n

The day flies by. The Tobago Cays are perfect for relaxing, sunbathing, swimming and snorkeling, and thus one of the most popular destinations of sailing yachts. Also diving tourists like to come here because in the lagoon between the islands there is a perfect dive spot at the Horse Shoe Reef.<\/p>\n

In the afternoon the catamaran sets sail again and heads for Union Island, part of the same country. We go on land in a long bay and enjoy a delicious fish barbecue and a typical rum punch. That’s really the best way to round off a day in the Caribbean.<\/p>\n
